Coming from the South

Leave the Al M at junction 58 to join A68
Remain on the A68 for approximately 16 miles joining A689 at roundabout. Travel through Wolsingham, Frosterley, Stanhope, Eastgate and Westgate. The Cottage is at the rear of No. 7 Front Street Westgate. Approximately 16 miles.

Coming from the North

Leave the A1 , west of Newcastle upon Tyne, onto A69 signposted Corbridge, Hexham.  After approximately 20 miles leave A68 onto A689 at roundabout. Travel through Wolsingham, Frosterley, Stanhope , Eastgate and into Westgate. The Cottage is at the rear of No. 7 Front Street. Approximately 16 miles.

Coming from the West

Travelling from the south or north.
Leave the M6 at junction 40 to join the A686 signposted Alston. After 20 miles enter Alston to leave it on the A689. After approximately 20 miles you will arrive at Westgate having travelled through Nenthead, Lanehead, Cowshill, Wearhead, Ireshopeburn, St. John's Chapel, Daddry Shield and Westgate. The Cottage is at the rear of No. 7 Front Street Westgate.

Public Transport to Westgate is poor! The nearest mainline Train Station is Durham and then Arriva Buses run to Crook and Stanhope and Weardale Motor Services operate a 2 hourly bus service to Westgate up to 6.00p.m. There are no services on a Sunday. Please contact us if you need bus timetables.

A car is really an essential to this part of County Durham. Although, when here, you can enjoy many days out walking the fells or just wandering along the river and up the woods - no car needed then!!
